At Aspire Golden State Prep , a 6-12th charter school located in the heart of East Oakland, one of the values in which we ground our work is equity. Being that we are part of a community where our student population is primarily made up of low-income Latinx families whose students will be the first in their families to attend college, we are not often presented with educational opportunities that are afforded to the more affluent schools in our city.
Our 9th graders have an amazing opportunity that allows them access to an experience that – for most of our students – is once-in-a-lifetime. To make this opportunity result in an equitable outcome for our students, we need your help!
NatureBridge , an organization that leads hands-on environmental science programs such as the Yosemite school trip we hope to take our 9th graders on, provides opportunities for growth both academically and personally. Students will participate in 3 days of hikes through the park, hands-on exploration, and team building activities led by highly trained educators. Thanks to NatureBridge’s Yosemite School Trips, our students have an opportunity to immerse themselves in nature while bonding as a family (another of GSP’s core values) and familiarizing themselves with how their actions impact the ecosystem and the world around them as a whole.
Your donation will go towards tuition, which includes over-night accommodations and transportation costs. We thank you in advance for your contribution towards making sure that our students’ school experience is as equitable as they deserve.
