Hello,
My name is LaTosha Matthews. I am a wife, a mother of three very colorful children, and a visual artist that lives and makes work out of the extremely creative city of Columbus, Ohio, USA. I received my Bachelor of Fine Art with Art Distinction for research in 2011 from The Ohio State University. My work acts as social commentary, highlighting my point of view of humanity's landscape. I use a variety of mediums to convey these thoughts and ideas, which includes sculpture, ceramics, painting, textiles, and performance art.
My family and I have an opportunity of a lifetime: to relocate to London, England, where I will attend Goldsmiths University of London for postgraduate school to study art. I am over the moon excited about the opportunity to travel overseas with my family to continue my quest of honing my artistic skills, while exploring concepts in my work internationally. As exciting as this news sounds, the reality is this experience comes with a nice price tag.
I am currently looking into ways to fund this great creative and international adventure for my family and I. This includes working overtime, applying for scholarships and loans, selling off my belongings, including my artworks. In speaking to friends about this awesome adventure, it was clear to me that there may be people in my network that would like to donate to this investment. And this is the reason I am writing.
So… How much do I need?
A LOT!!!! (Let's just say it is over 10 times the amount that I am requesting) But hopefully I will be able to offset much of the cost with scholarships and loans. (Keeping my fingers crossed!!!)
The first major cost associated with this move is the Advance Payment fee that solidifies my space at the university, which is $4500 USD. I have already made plans to make this payment through my own efforts by May 1st, but with your help, I may be able to make this payment sooner and can begin to collect money for other fees associated with visas, tuition, and airfare. Once this goal is met I will update my page with new fee goals as they present themselves.
Any amount you may wish to donate towards this goal, tuition, or just to support the relocation in general, will be an enormous help in moving us closer to London. And as a token of our appreciation for donating to our cause, we come bearing gifts for donating at certain amounts.
