This year I have been continually reminded that the Lord’s plan will always be greater than my own. As I plan to graduate in the Spring of 2019 with a major in Organizational Communication and a minor in Religious studies I cannot help but be so excited to see where my post-grad plans take me. For now, I am soaking up every minute as a Missouri State Bear, taking on leadership roles within my sorority, and interning for BreakDown St. Louis!
As far as this summer goes... I’m going global! Summer of 2018 will be a two part adventure -
Part one:
To conclude my current internship with BreakDown St. Louis I will be kicking off the summer by spending a week in Jamaica with the organization Endless Opportunities Worldwide. BreakDown STL educates, equips, and empowers teens to make positive life choices regarding relationships, sex, alcohol, drugs, bullying, self-harm, and suicide by providing health education to students in the St. Louis area. As the Organizational Development Intern I cannot wait to see this team serve Jamaica’s local youth detention center, special needs orphanage, and take on the mission of BreakDown St. Louis to a global scale.
Part two:
For the remainder of the summer, this girl is packing her bags to go live in Uganda, Africa! I have accepted an internship with the non-profit, Sole Hope, and will be working as their Marketing and Social Media Intern! Sole Hope exists to see the people of Uganda become jigger (a parasitic insect found in most tropical and sub-tropical climates) free through providing health education, giving medical care, and providing shoes to those in the local villages.
Whether it’s the story of a child who goes back to school after becoming jigger free, the journey of a shoe from start to finish, or a profile of a staff member - storytelling is a critical part of Sole Hope’s efforts Uganda. I will be telling Sole Hope’s story through Facebook, Instagram, blogging, etc… Through my creative eye and gift with words my role is to connect Sole Hope’s work in Uganda to supporters around the world.
It has been wild to see the Lord’s plan come full circle. After returning from my first trip to Africa I knew that I would be back some day. Entering this school year I had decided to pick a country and specifically pray over it for the year. My country? Uganda. Throughout all of this, if anyone would have asked me what my summer plans consisted of I would have confidently replied that I was seeking to intern with the company of my dreams in the pacific northwest. Little did I know that the country marked on a map in my room with a little red tack would soon become my home for a few short months. After a season of focusing on Uganda and turning down my previous plans, I have been reminded that the Lord’s plan will always be greater than my own. I cannot wait for what's in store and continue share the adventure!
I am sending you this letter to ask if you would consider joining my team.
In my time preparing for these trips I been told by my leaders that I am not asking for money, but for support. I’m asking for you to come alongside me on this journey because lives are only going to be changed through the Lord’s handiwork and a team of people being faithful to the Lord’s call. This isn’t just money. This is an adventure. Even greater, this is an adventure to further the Kingdom.
In total, I need to raise $5,875 for this summer. $1,700 for Jamaica and $4,175 for Africa.
