Going Clean for Jilly Bean

September 12th, 2017 was an average, ordinary day - until it wasn't. That's the day the Travis family began a new, very challenging and harrowing journey through the peaks and valleys of childhood cancer. Jilly, the two-year old daughter of Andy and Amy Travis, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. After a routine follow-up visit to treat ongoing congestion, Jilly's pediatrician ordered lab work. Those lab results were life changing, and Jilly was immediately referred to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for further evaluation, including consultations with blood disorder specialists. Follow-up lab work confirmed the leukemia diagnosis, and so began the first day in a battle with cancer that will wage on for the next 2+ years.

Jilly's leukemia is the most common type of childhood cancer; however, the fight against this disease is anything but common. Jilly is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment on a weekly basis at Roanoke Memorial. These weekly treatments will continue through December, at which time her medical staff will reassess the frequency of her chemotherapy treatments through 2019.

As one can imagine, these treatments are very difficult for Jilly, and periodically are accompanied by other painful procedures. But through it all, this two-year old bundle of sunshine, is fighting against this disease with the strength and courage of a mighty warrior. Overcoming leukemia cannot be done overnight.
