Hello everyone. Firstly I hope you're all keeping well and staying safe during the pandemic. I'm Pascal Manda. I'm an international student originally from Indonesia currently living & studying in the UK, Liverpool. I have just officially finished my bachelor degree in Creative Performing Arts (my specialty/signature practice is in the therapeutic art in music & dance) this year at Hope University. Currently waiting for my result to be out this summer and I'm expecting a first, or at least 2:1. I play the small celtic harp and I aspire to be a music therapist in the future as I've always believed in the wonderful healing power of music. Music, more than we think, can offer incredible various health benefits to both mind and body! Physically and psychologically. I myself, within the past few years, have had the amazing chance to play music voluntarily for the vulnerable population(s), mostly elderly people.
Where I'm from, there's very little, if not almost zero opportunity in this fairly new field of music. Hence I worked so hard and managed to study abroad thanks to the support of my mother. I'm planning to stay here in the UK for a better future and work as a licensed and credited music therapist at public and private health instituions. Therefore I'm pledging for your support to help with my tuition to study a Master in Psychology (1 year course) at Hope University, which is the necessary final step for me before getting into music therapy professionally.
I come from a middle class family and my mom is a single parent with 3 children. It's already hard enough for her to finance me throughout my 3 years of study here and I do not want to disappoint her, and myself by not continuing all the work I've put in so far. Due to the pandemic our economy has dropped immensely. Our currency IDR against GBP is comparably low to start with and now even worse. I do not want to burden my mother any further with the tuition cost which is much more hefty for non-EU student.
My plan after acquiring the degree, is that I'll be given 2 years to look for a job in the UK (according to UKVISA), I'll use the opportunity to get work experience and look for job in the health sector whilst getting the proper training in music therapy. And eventually, becoming a certified music therapist. Lastly, I would like to give back to my mother and like any other child, to make her proud.
I can't thank you enough for reading my lengthy pledge. Don't forget to listen to some music that you love and dance a little more, we all can use a tiny bit of joy in this hard times!
