GoatFundMe 2023

Hello all. We are The Belmont Goats, an urban herd located in Portland, Oregon. For the past 10 years, we have been a free place to spend time with the sweetest goats you have ever meet. Our mission is to create an oasis within Portland, where the public can freely visit these magical creatures.

Recently we experienced the first loss of a member of the herd, Phil. We have previously asked for support in the past for medical and moving expenses, and our community has supported us through all of it with a gracious heart. Our youngest twins turned 9 on the Winter Solstice, and we have no intention of adding to the herd at this point in time. With this, we are now faced with the realization our herd is aging and we need to start to prepare for potential health issues and keep our herd as safe and comfortable as possible.

EDIT July 2023!!!!!! Over the past 6 months we've experienced a lot of internal changes, and we've had to take a hard look on what Portland would look like if The Belmont Goats slowly passed away. The one thing that has stopped us from ever having kids and continuing the herd, was that we don't own land. The city of Portland has generously lent us land awaiting to be developed over the past 10 years, and we continue to constantly be looking for new land every 3-4 years. We just moved a few months ago, and we're already looking to move within the next 3 years as our current land is to be developed then. It was always the plan to just keep them together to live out their days, but over the past few months we've been getting serious about finding land to continue the goats for generations to come. 

A crazy idea was brought to us by a group wanting to create a for-profit to purchase an ICONIC property, that would allow the herd (a non-profit) to live out their days as royalty, while creating a retreat that would be the epitome of an oasis. It would be a beautiful place for people to come visit. And even better, we could be able to begin to grow for the first time since we founded our 501c3! There are 3-4 acres of land not being utilized on the property. Currently we have people tirelessly building a comprehensive business plan and seeking investors to potentially partner with. We thought, what better way to get the word out than attempt to raise the funds to find land ourselves, and see where it takes us. 

It's a big leap, but in our eyes, it will somehow lead us to our forever home. 

This property is potentially going to auction this week, after years of being for sale. We only learned about it when we finally decided to get serious and tour the property. They even invited us back to bring Bambi to tour the property, and she fully approves! We think we can combine two Portland icons to create an an amazing place for people to visit the goats! We think there are no better lords and ladies of Blackberry Castle than The Belmont Goats. Let us know you agree and spread the word! Here's to dreaming the impossible! ❤️❤️

We are a 100% volunteer-run, donation-based non-profit that has survived thanks to the love and support of the greater community. We plan on doing a future fundraiser where we provide shirts, pins, or other goat-related merch. Let us know what you would like to see!

We owe our existence and continued operation to our community, both at home and at large. Without our people, we wouldn't be where we are. So, thank you to everyone who has continued to stick by us and support us while we transition into this next phase and we welcome you to come out during our open gate hours for some goat snuggles!
