Donna Gudger Get Up & Go Fund
Donna Gudger has spent her life giving to and loving others. Many of you know her from Borders Books and Music, where she shared her love and passion for books and music, stories and songs with countless children and adults. Now she needs our help, our joy.
For many years, Donna lived in Philadelphia with her daughter, and helped raise six grandchildren. They are the light of her life. But about four years ago, she started using a wheelchair to get around. Her legs are not strong enough to support her (to walk, or even stand). She is doing everything she can to keep her spirits up and the hope in her heart alive, but it is a mighty struggle. Family helped her move to Los Angeles, thinking it might help Donna find her joy again and set off on a new chapter in life. Without her own source of income, however, her situation is very difficult. She has recently applied for Social Security benefits, and gets some help from Medicare. But Donna must find a new place to live as soon as possible.

Donna is looking for a "sanctuary," and reaching out to various organizations and groups in L.A. for help. She needs a place with no stairs, an accessible bathroom, etc. She is in sunny California, but often spends multiple days inside due to her lack of mobility! When she finds a home, Donna will have the time and space she needs to heal, and discern the next steps to take in life.
...Help Donna regain her independence.
She is waiting for word from Medicare about starting physical therapy. It's going to take time, and a lot of hard work. But Donna is determined to get out of that chair and walk again.
...Help Donna realize a dream and start a new life.
For years, Donna and her daughter have dreamed of buying an RV or converted school bus, and heading out to Arizona with all the grandkids. She was thinking about Yuma, because it's supposed to have more sunny days than any city in the U.S. (Donna literally has a vitamin D deficiency). But Sedona looks interesting, too (and not quite so hot). Donna doesn't have pricing yet, but these vehicles are costly. Part of the $5k raised will start a fund to buy that "Magic School Bus." Donna could bring a lot of joy, stories and songs to the world in a bus like that! Please help. Give what you can, and say a prayer or send some light to Donna. Help her get out of that chair and back on her feet.
