Education for Black Students

Donation protected
Black students need access to computers and wifi for virtual learning in Hartford, CT. In 2016 the the United Nations (U.N.) declared that “online freedom” is a "human right," and one that must be protected. This was in the form of resolution. Not having internet is a barrier to education in the time of COVID-19. In spite of schools engaging in virtual learning many students in Hartford do not have a computer or internet access. Some households have more than one student but were only allowed one given computer by Hartford Public Schools.

Comcast has offered internet essentials at $9.95 a month but families who have preexisting accounts with past due balances are not eligible. These balances need to be paid so students can have a stable connection and access to the outside world during a global pandemic.

Our hope is that it will help to close the digital divide in our urban community so students will have access to more information.  Access to virtual learning instead of just in-person can encourage students to #stayhome to reduce the spread of infection since they will now have the option.

Any amount of helps. Our first purchase will be a Chromebook for a student in need and then we will help pay balances for families. If you have a device that you would like to donate to a family in need please contact Tenaya Taylor at [email redacted]
