Capital Campaign for Kelly's Working Well Farm
THIS IS THE STORY OF KELLY'S WORKING WELL FARM
In 2012, Kelly and her husband began what would soon become their life's work; to turn a deserted property into an educational community farm with a food producing garden, farm animals, gatherings, & summer camps attracting hundreds of children. Earth skills, environmental workshops & community events drew folks from all over northeast Ohio.
Shortly after, Kelly retired from twenty plus years of teaching to start the self-directed education program that is now Chagrin Valley Learning Collective. Inspired by Peter Gray’s book “Free to Learn", the program focuses on the development of children’s autonomy & personal connection through a self-governing community. It is unique in that it also provides farm & nature immersion as foundational experiences.
A Vibrant Center for Living & Learning in Harmony with Nature & Each Other
From the first days, their focus was always on creating more than a farm. A new building will be the centerpiece of this vision. A place where many important initiatives can work together. At the heart of all of this is Chagrin Valley Learning Collective (formerly known as Chagrin Valley School). We will grow & enrich our students with this new building on the farm property. The building will be designed so that the community can also connect through gatherings, summer camps & workshops. Collaborations with local organizations like Reeds & Roots, Rust Belt Riders, The Food Shed & Chagrin Falls Park will grow. There is also a plan to add regenerative farming internships.
We are asking for help to achieve this vision of building a vibrant center for living & learning in harmony with nature & each other.
