[Round 2] Rare Cancer Surgery Fund

Donación protegida

It's now 2017 and We Need Your Help (Again)!

Three years ago, we all rallied around Glynis Charles in her time of need as she underwent sepcialized cancer surgery in Baltimore, MD (over 1,000 miles from her home, family and friends).

Unfotunately, the CANCER HAS RETURNED.

And Glynis needs our help again as she undergoes the same surgery a second time.

The Original $4250 we raised was already spent for her first surgery... and when you take that from the total amount raised... you can see we still have a ways to go.

And time is short...

Below are the details of the original GoFund me campaign so you can understand the need.

Please help us support Glynis one more time.  And regardless of how much you give finanically ... be it the cost of a starbucks coffee ... or dinner out with  family and friends ... the most important thing you can do is pray for her, her family, and her caregivers.

Thank you in advance for your generous donation as we help our friend during this difficult time.

God bless and Godspeed.

Nicholas & Tina Brack

We Need Your Help!

A dear friend of ours named Glynis Charles—a faithful member of our “Life Group" (Bible Study) for the past two years—was recently diagnosed with a very rare cancer called Pseudomyxoma Peritonei.

The good news is that this type of cancer rarely metastasizes, and it is highly responsive to a specialized surgical procedure (performed by only a handful of surgeons in the country.)

So thankfully, her prognosis is excellent.

In fact the surgeon told her that if she has this procedure now, she will be able to “live out her days.”

But if she doesn’t, she has about two years to live since the tumors will eventually fill the abdominal cavity and shut down her organs.

Needless to say,  Glynis opted for surgery (on February 3rd).

The only problem is that this 12-hour surgery is in Baltimore, MD.

It’s nowhere near the support and care she could receive from all of us here in Jupiter, Florida.

And this is why we need your help.

You see Glynis’ health insurance covers everything related to her surgery and rehabilitation.

But it doesn’t cover one of the main requirements of the surgical team.

In addition to all the medical care, Glynis must have a 24/7 caregiver with her at all times—both while she’s in the hospital (21 days), and also in rehab (14 days).

But since she will be in Baltimore, our “Life Group” won’t be able to provide the 24/7 support directly.

Just so you know what I mean when I say “Life Group” (as our Church calls them), these are small “fellowship” groups and Bible studies with a mission to “do life together.”

We “rejoice with those who rejoice, and mourn with those who mourn,” Romans 12:15.  We also “carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ” Galatians 6:2.

The bottom line is that we are here to help Glynis any way we can.

And  since we can’t physically be in Baltimore to take care of her, we are raising the money to make sure she is still taken care of with the love and support any one of us would want.

But given that this “ask” is a bit bigger than our Life Group can handle on our own, we are reaching out to other groups… friends … family … colleagues … and anyone else who is willing to help support Glynis.

Our goal is to defray the costs associated with this 24/7 caregiver requirement, as well as her hotel stay while she is in rehab.

So here is the picture of what we need.

After surgery, Glynis will be in the hospital for 21 days.

We estimate $15 an hour, for a private 24/7 caregiver that will stay at the hospital with her.

That’s $360 a day, for 21 days, or $7,560.

In addition, Glynis will be in rehab for 14 days, also with the requirement of a 24/7 caregiver.  This is another $5,040.

Lastly, she will be staying in a hotel during rehab, which is another $130/day, or $1,820.

This brings us to a maximum financial need of $14,420.

Glynis is looking into finding a caregiver that will charge a flat fee for the entire time as opposed to an hourly rate, so it is possible that the total expenses will be slightly less.

Even so, we are going to need a lot of help from others outside our group.

So far, we’ve helped Glynis defray $600 in the costs associated with getting her to Baltimore for two days of testing.  This was the preliminary appointment she needed to be medically cleared and then ultimately accepted for treatment.

And we also had $650 donated offline, before we started the GoFundMe campaign.

But now we need your help.

With one small action today you can make a huge difference in Glynis’ life.

Please consider a donation in any amount you feel comfortable with ... $5, $25, $100, $500 or more.

And whether you donate or not, please pass this on to as many people as you can.

When you do, you will not only be touching Glynis' life, but the many others she will be touching in the future.

As a Clinical Social Worker with a passion for working with Veterans, as well as  vulnerable women and children, we know that when Glynis is walking in complete healing …

This entire process of rallying around one-life-in-need (spiritually, emotionally, and financially) will be part of the much larger testimony she will share with hundreds of others down the road.

So thank you in advance for your support, and for making a difference in Glynis’ life and the countless people she will touch in the years to come as she “lives out her days.”

God Bless and Godspeed!
