Gloria Chen Stroke Recovery

On July 27th, my strong, independent, and unconditionally loving mom had a massive stroke. The clot on her left brain damaged and affected her mobility on the right side of her body as well as her ability to balance, swallow, comprehend, and speak. 

She is currently bedridden, in and out of sleep, and on a feeding tube because she is unable to properly swallow. We haven't seen any signs that she can follow instructions, let alone any words or even recognize us at all. She is on the edge of a minimally conscious state. She has been placed in a nursing home long term because the doctors believe that she will not be able to take care of herself for the rest of her life. 

Now it is completely up to her recovery for us to get any part of her back. The neurologist hasn't given us much hope beyond that she will be in a nursing home for the rest of her life. But the consensus among every medical expert has said that everyone's journey is different and recovery can take months to years, with the one year post-stroke being the critical recovery time period.

While we remain realistic, we also remain hopeful because my mom has been a fighter her entire life. She has always been a powerhouse through tough times and I believe that this is no different.

The goal with this GoFundMe is to help with her treatments to recovery. We've been told that insurance only goes so far for her physical, occupational, and speech therapy and doesn't cover for any other treatments that may help her. We are hoping to give her a better chance for being able to fight her way back like she has done so many times before.

I know that this is one in the thousands of other GoFundMe campaigns that others are raising money for. But my dad and I would deeply appreciate any and all help during this time.
