Don protégé
Hey Everyone,
Our names are Arana Katasema and Scout Cox. We are a part of the Global Medical Brigades chapter at Smith College. In March 2025, we will be going to Guatemala to provide support to an under-resourced community. We will be shadowing and learning from local volunteers and pro bono doctors and helping them in any way that they need.
Global Brigades is an international non-profit organization that works to empower disadvantaged communities through a series of programs that together provide holistic support. Global Medical Brigades (GMB) aims to improve access to healthcare by providing training, necessary medical supplies, and support to these communities. Global Medical Brigades partners pro bono doctors with chapters from college/universities and sends them to areas that need medical assistance..
During the brigade, four days are spent providing basic medical care, such as dental extractions and dental fillings, triage, giving people the medication that they need, at a pop up community clinic.. Volunteers will also spend time learning more about the country that the brigade is in, such as the public health systems in place. In the evenings, each chapter creates hygiene packs filled with needed supplies, such as toothbrushes, to hand out to the community.
Each donation, no matter how small, helps not only those who are in need but allows us to bring the needed supplies to truly make a difference. Your donation will help us bring the necessary supplies to help the community, provide us with lodging and food during our stay in Guatemala, and provide training for the local volunteers in the area who offer support to the community once the GMB brigade has left.
Thank you so much for your time and consideration!
All the best,
Scout, Arana and the GMB team
