Here at Aspire K9 Academy, we are launching a heartfelt campaign for a very special new client, Glenna.

Glenna is visually impaired and faces incredible challenges just to attend training for her 8 month old Standard Poodle, Mica. For example, during her recent visit for a one-hour Life Skills class, Glenna was forced by public transportation schedules to wait for hours. When a driver did arrive, they stopped a block away from our property and refused to come any farther. We drove Glenna to her ride, and personally witnessed the difficulties she endured with this system. Glenna has 3 more classes upcoming as part of her training program.

Glenna is exceptionally bright and understands dog training concepts intuitively, but her eyesight has prevented her from training Mica with precision. Glenna knows that Mica, with his wonderful temperament and intelligence, has the potential to be an excellent service dog. After our evaluations of Mica, we felt the same. However, he is young and needs a lot of work; just a few months ago, Mica pulled hard enough on leash to cause Glenna to fall down, breaking all of her front teeth.

To ensure Mica can learn his obedience & manners without risk of additional injury to Glenna, we want to offer a 4-week board and train program with continued support to master the foundations necessary for service work. Despite the necessity, the cost of such intensive training is outside of Glenna's current budget. She has previously experienced the profound impact service dogs can have on her independence and quality of life, having been partnered with service dogs twice before. Recognizing their potential, we are committed to making this training accessible for Glenna.

Our team strongly believes dog training should be accessible to everyone, and as such, we’re passionate about our philanthropic efforts such as discounted services for dogs and owners in need. In the past, we have helped owners, rescues, shelters, and foster families that have unique challenges and special circumstances - and we look forward to continuing those efforts here in the DMV area. Since Aspire K9 Academy is still a young and growing company, we’re looking for support from the community to be able to offer Glenna the service she needs and deserves at this time.

We’re committed to contributing services valued at up to double what we’re able to raise through crowdfunding, and plan to keep all contributors updated on Mica’s training progress via our social media channels. Your support will not only set Mica up for success as a future service dog, but also restore a significant degree of independence to Glenna's life.

Thank you for considering being a part of our community efforts, and being a part of this life-changing journey!
