Following the closure of the Braehead Curling Rink, a group of curlers came together to explore options to build a new centre for both curling and ice skating in the Greater Glasgow area. We looked at lots of potential locations, funding sources, and operational partners. After months of research and analysis, we are happy to recommend that we should build a brand new multi-purpose ice rink, or convert an existing building to suit our needs.
We intend this new facility to offer an ice rink for curling, skating and hockey, and host a world-leading curling museum. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop these amazing sports that we love in our local community.
We have considered a number of organisations to be our professional advisers and partners. Our first step is to commission a full-scale Feasibility Study to determine the full details, costs and logistics of this project. Our chosen consultant for this stage is IPW (https://ipw3.com).
We are also delighted to announce that Glasgow Ice Centre is now registered as a SCIO - a “Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation” SC050260
Our inaugural Trustees are Alan Hannah, Liz Burton-King, Lauren Gray and Margarita Sweeney-Baird BEM, who look forward to working with all of you in making this great idea come to life.
Amounts given at this stage will be put towards the cost of the Feasibility Study and are hugely appreciated
Please note - money raised is paid into the "Braehead Curling Development Group (BCDG)" bank account who we're happy to say, are holding funds for us prior to SCIO registration and a separate bank account
