We all have ways that we assert our independence. I'm a quadriplegic, and I gained independence in the form of the iBot 4000, a wheelchair that has a four-wheel drive mode, can raise me up to eye level with standing people, and can even climb stairs. When I heard that the manufacturer was discontinuing the iBot, I was devastated. I felt a part of me was going to be lost to. A friend of mine, and fellow iBot user, Alan Brown said, "It's like being paralyzed all over again."
The batteries on my iBOT have failed, and there is no longer any way for me to obtain batteries from the manufacturer. I've located a company in California who can refurbish my existing batteries, but it is expensive. I've lost my independence, and I'd like to gain it back.
