We are all the same storm, but we are not all in the same boat.
The Covid-19 pandemic has had a negative effect on everyone’s mental health, but inequality plays a role here, meaning not all have been affected equally.
At direction, funds are usually raised through renting out our meeting room in central Edinburgh to provide financial support to individuals and couples most in need. Due to the impact of COVID-19, this has not been possible, therefore drastically reducing the funds available for additional assistance.
There is access to funding in Scotland for people on low incomes. At direction , we are aiming to bridge the gap for the ‘financially less able’ – this middle group of people who have seen income plummet as a result of furlough, self-employment or small business owners. These people are in employment and, therefore, not eligible for full benefits. They have been struggling through the pandemic, on vastly reduced income, with little spare money for much-needed therapy.
In the immediate term, we would like raise a minimum of £12,000 to be able to provide this financially less able group of people with high quality 1-1 or group therapy, or places on our training days and retreats.
Applicants can apply for funding to cover the costs of their counselling, psychotherapy and/or training, with experienced, high quality therapists and professional trainers, through direction.
We are incredibly grateful for donations of any size. This is a not-for-profit campaign - all profit will go towards providing this much-needed support.
