Giving Terry a chance

Donation protected
Terry is a 37 year old dad who suffers with Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis (SPMS), after being diagnosed almost 5 years ago.
After multiple tests & an MRI Scan, the doctors found lesions in Terry's brain which confirmed our worst fears.

There is a treatment available called Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT). This is where infant stem cells from Terry's bone marrow, which have no influence on the auto immune disease, are taken from his body. A course of intense chemotherapy treatment is then given to wipe out his current immune system that's attacking him. Once this has been done, the infant stem cells are then put back, unaware that Terry's body had previously been attacking itself. This will then allow his body to regenerate a new, healthy immune system.

We need to get Terry to a clinic in Russia that can provide this life changing treatment, but this comes at a cost. The cost of the treatment is £50,000 and whilst we're doing all we can as a family, we desperately need help to reach our goal.

We don't know how long it will be before Terry is wheelchair bound and treatment becomes less affective, so time isn't on our side.

He takes 100's of mg of tablets a day and although he's always tired, it's so hard for him to sleep due to his muscles going into spasm. Terry regularly experiences weakness, trouble with coordination and issues with his bowel & bladder. He also suffers with digestive and kidney problems. He's also tried several other treatments that are supposed to help stop the progression of SPMS, but nothing has worked.

All of this has had a huge impact on Terry's mental wellbeing and he gets so frustrated that he can't do even the simplest of things. Terry used to be a bricklayer, who really enjoyed the hands on work and the banter. Being unable to work at all now has made him feel lonely and isolated, causing bouts of depression.

He has a young son, Jackson, who will be 12 soon and Terry desperately wants to live a normal life as a dad and do all the things that he, for a long time now, has missed out on. Due to the severity of Terry's illness, even kicking the ball around or taking Jackson to the park is too much for his body to handle. He's missed many family get togethers & holidays due to being too tired and uncomfortable.

Every day is a huge struggle for Terry; his body feels like he's being squeezed (this is called the MS hug) and his legs feel like he constantly has cramp.

Terry isn't living the life that a 37 year old dad should be, and we have to change that for him.
