A Future for the Children of Uganda through Tennis

Donation protected
After visiting Tennis For All Uganda, we saw the amazing work a small team of people are doing for the most unprivileged children in Kampala, Uganda. Motivated and touched  by their efforts, we decided to contribute by creating this fundraiser. Together we can spread the word, raise much needed funds and truly give a future to children, who otherwise would not have the opportunity.

Tennis For All Uganda is a rare organisation in that region, that offers more than 200 children a safe place away from their everyday hardships. The program is built on tennis and education, keeping in mind the sustainability and future of these children. Free daily tennis lessons and school work will prove them with a real chance for higher education or a job. In addition, this amazing program is in the process of finishing their skills center, where children can learn valuable skills; such as sewing and construction.   More importantly, this program aims to teach children values. Helping them grow into healthy, well-educated, tolerant and compassionate human beings, who will contribute to making their community and the world a better place.

We were amazed by the passion and determination of these children to walk every day (some more than 6 km a day) to play tennis and learn.  With limited equipment and facilities the coaches have provided, children have really learned the difficult sport and can use it to build a better future for them and their families. The program is quite strict, making  sure the grades are up and attendance is high.

Most of the children are able to join this program as their tuition is being payed by the few donors helping this project. However, some of the children pay their own school fees with the money they make selling items they have made in the skills center.

TO SUMMERIZE. Main Goals of this Project:

1. To empower young people to achieve their highest potential by helping them develop meaningful values and critical life skills that will lead them to make constructive life choices

2. Improve future prospects of low-income, unprivileged children and youth in the community through athletic and academic enrichment.

3. To keep children off city streets during school time, in a safe environment they can trust.

SPECIFIC GOAL FOR THIS FUNDRAISING:

As mentioned above, Tennis for All Uganda is in the process of finishing their skills center right outside of Kampala. The children of this program are taught specific skills during weekends and holidays.  Construction and sewing has already provided children with an income, and is meant to create more income and job opportunities in the future.

The skill centre operates as a boarding school, where children can stay during their holiday. This further ensures they have a safe place, away from dangerous slums, where most live. Protecting them from diseases, abusive relationships, car accidents or getting in trouble with the authorities.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR DONORS TO FINALISE THE SKILL CENTER BY BUILDING A SMALL MULTIPURPOSE FIELD (pictured down)

To continue with the hard work the team is doing, and even expand the capacity of the center helping more children, they certainly need more stable donors. All facilities built, as well as equipment that was bought, was thanks to previous donors. For this reason, we have decided to create this fundraiser to help them continue with this relevant initiative, hopefully expanding the number of children as well.
