Giving back to the Paradise community

My name is Anastasia and I’m a surgical nurse in Paradise California. I was born and raised in Greece by a Greek father and a Japanese mother and I have been living in Paradise for the last 10 years. My husband and I have been together for almost 20 years and we decided to move to his home town to be close to his side of the family since mine is in Europe.
As many of you have heard already, on November 8 a destructive fire named the Camp fire swept through our beautiful town and burned it to the ground. The fire came so fast and suddenly that people were barely able to evacuate from the raging flames. Thousands of people including myself believed we were not going to make it alive out of Paradise but miraculously we are still here!
The scale of devastation that hit our town is unimaginable. 18,500 structures have been destroyed more than 50% with only 3,745 still standing. As of November 29 there have been 88 fatalities and 198 missing. Thousands of people have lost their homes, jobs and their children’s schools. Our town and community will never be the same.
With Christmas coming up in four weeks I cannot stop thinking about so many people who have lost so much in this fire. As a mother myself it breaks my heart to think that families are struggling every day and that celebrating Christmas this year may not be possible. With that in mind I created this fundraising page to donate money so that the people in my community can buy food for a Christmas meal and presents for their children. The goal is to close this page on December 12th and purchase $500 gift cards for each family. I acknowledge that this is a pretty big amount but please keep in mind that the cost of living in America is higher than other countries and that the families we are supporting have lost everything in the fire. With the support of my sister Effie who lives in London UK we would like to reach our fundraising goal by getting as many supporters from around the world as possible. Please take a few minutes out of your busy lives and help us spread some love and joy in someone’s life. Thank you.
