Haute Route for Alex

At the start of this year, I lost my best friend Alex Mc Gourty who died tragically while kayaking. Alex and I grew up together, sharing many wonderful adventures and cherished memories. Alex lived life to the fullest and inspired me to do the same.
Alex died pursuing his passion of whitewater kayaking the Abanico River, in Ecuador. Alex was happiest when kayaking, he spent the latter years travelling around the world seeking out new experiences and challenges and embracing these fully. At just nineteen, Alex was an extremely talented yet modest young man who touched the hearts and enriched the lives of all who crossed his path, both young and old.
Thanks to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust whose assistance enabled Alex to return home one last time. This Trust provided invaluable support and assistance to the Mc Gourty family at this heart-breaking time. The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust aims to provide financial assistance to bereaved families to repatriate their loved one’s who died outside of Ireland. The cost of the repatriation of Alex halfway across the world was a huge undertaking by the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust and I am truly thankful for this support and assistance.
On the 18th to 24th of august I will be partaking in the hardest amateur cycling race in the world, to raise funds for the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust, so they can continue doing their invaluable work. The race is called the Haute Route and runs through the Pyrenees mountains in France and is 800km long and with a vertical gain of 20,000+ meters over seven days. I am doing extensive training to prepare myself physically and mentally for this gruelling challenge. All donations given will go straight to the Kevin Bell repatriation trust. Any donations will be going towards repatriation like Alex’s. This charity is an amazing organisation that do outstanding work.
