Give the gift of Heartworm Treatment

Tax deductible
Giving Tuesday is here and we are asking today to give the gift of heartworm treatment to our heartworm positive pups.

Heartworm is spread through the single bite of an infected mosquito, and can cause severe lung disease, heart failure, other organ damage, and death in dogs. It is important that we treat the dogs that contract heartworm in order to give them a second chance at a happy healthy life.

We are committed to saving dogs in our own neighborhood as well as from the many high-kill shelters in the southern states where euthanasia rates account for the largest majority of animal deaths in the country. Some of the dogs most at risk are dogs who are Heartworm positive. In some cases, we are their only chance of getting out.

Many rescues are not able to pull HW+ cases because the treatment is VERY costly. Treating a large dog for heartworm can cost up to $1500 - not to mention the cost of necessary basic medical care for vaccines, spay/neuter, prevention etc. In the last month alone we spent $1,500 on just 4 single treatments for 4 different dogs. Treatment is an ongoing process and requires medication, hospitalizations, follow-up care and multiple sessions of HW injections over the span of a few months. Thus, treatment is an ongoing cost.

Saved Me is dedicating to helping dogs who may have no other options and that includes taking on the cost of this treatment. Through our partnership with The Pet Mechanic , we can help find amazing homes for these unwanted and abandoned dogs by offering to cover the cost of their heartworm treatment. We ask our adopters to provide love and safety but we do not ask them to take on the burden of this cost.

Heartworm is not a chronic condition and it can be cured within 6 months of a diagnosis. In 2021, we knowingly took in 30 HW+ dogs. That's $30,000 spent on dogs who wouldn't have made it out of the south without us. That's not including dogs that tested positive after being brought up here.

We are in the process of treating 15 dogs either in our current care or that were recently adopted. Will you help us cover these costs so that we can save just as many in 2022? We're hoping to raise $15,000 to set us up for the new year.

Will you help us save more lives?

(PS Prevention is easier and less expensive than treatment! Make sure you keep your pups on HW prevention all year long and don't risk an infection.)
