If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that we all still need each others help to get through tough times and get to a point where we're putting smiles back on each others faces.
For many of those born with cleft palates and lips however, smiling is something that just doesn't happen. Imagine how hard it must be to make connections with other kids, not being able to eat or drink properly and generally not having a sense of belonging.
Luckily, with a one hour surgery that only costs around 300$ per child, a child's entire life can be changed around and their confidence and self esteem restored. You'll be giving them the chance to have a normal life and to chase all the many hopes and dreams they may have. With all the things in our lives that we find it hard to make a difference in, this is not one of them.
This November 2021, after a long interruption due to the coronavirus, Smile Bangladesh will be resuming the mission trips to perform cleft palate and lip repairs at no cost to many Bangladeshis affected.
Smile Bangladesh has a wonderful team of surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses and support staff that have made it their mission to make this difference in the lives of patients with cleft lips and palates. Many of them are spending out of their own pocket to make it possible for the majority of your support to go straight to performing the surgeries and setting up the necessary logistics such as equipment costs. Smile Bangladesh has sent out mission trips nearly twice a year since 2006 to perform restorative surgeries and to work alongside local initiatives to promote training and awareness for cleft palate repairs. The entire trip is estimated to run about 30-40k but let’s try to our best to do what we can in our own way.
Smile Bangladesh is a 501c3 nonprofit and this mission is Zakat eligible.
