Give Ron a Wheelchair Accessible Van and Bathroom

A wheelchair? A walker? A cane?
Someone who can’t speak? Someone who can’t see? Someone who can’t walk?
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a neurodegenerative disease that can impact your ability to do all of these things. Most people with MS slowly lose the energy and ability to walk and talk over time, along with many other challenges.
Ron received a double diagnosis of both Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis (PPMS) and Multiple Myeloma in March of 2019. The Multiple Sclerosis has progressed VERY quickly, causing him to lose much of his ability to WALK and TALK over the past year and a half.
For those of you that know Ron, you know that he loves the beach and that he is a very talented sports announcer. MS is stealing his ability to enjoy both of these passions.
Over the years, Ron has volunteered his skills as a ballgame announcer. He has a true talent and he used his ability to speak to support the local school athletic teams. I listened to him make the games come alive through his words, his enthusiasm, and his sarcasm. I was so proud to see him finding purpose, finding his voice. Sadly, Ron can longer announce ballgames because of his difficulty in speaking. MS is stealing his voice.
In July of 2019, Ron and Tammy moved to Florida where they planned to enjoy as much time as they could on the beach. NOW, just one year later, things have changed. Ron can barely walk. Ron uses a cane or walker to get around their studio condo, and on good days can get to a chair on the pool deck. He is not able to get to the beach at all. He can see the beautiful blue water and white sand from across the street, but he cannot feel the sand between his toes or the water wash over his feet. He cannot walk hand in hand with my mom through the sand like he once did. MS is stealing his ability to walk.
Ron’s neurologist and physical therapist are telling him he may lose his ability to walk and talk all together. He is currently using a walker and loaner wheelchair. However, he will most likely be completely wheelchair bound by December.
We have set up this GoFundMe to help raise money for a down payment on a wheelchair accessible van and to complete a bathroom renovation to make it handicap accessible as well. The MS has progressed far quicker than we expected and the costs have quickly piled up.
Can you help us COME TOGETHER to give Ron a life outside of his room and to make his home safe for him as he continues to fight against this rapidly progressing disease?
