Help Save River: A Loving Dog in Need of Heartworm Treatment

River is a sweet and affectionate hound dog mix, approximately 1 1/2 years old, who was found abandoned near the river in Potosi, MO. A kind rescuer picked him up, but due to unforeseen circumstances, River became homeless again and faced the heartbreaking possibility of euthanasia.

In an emergency, I stepped in to foster River, even without the backing of a rescue organization. This means that I'm responsible for all his vet bills, food, and other needs. After a week of acclimating to his new home, River was taken to the vet for a health check. Unfortunately, he tested positive for heartworms, a condition that is fatal if left untreated.

Despite this diagnosis, River is otherwise exceptionally healthy and young, which gives him a good chance of recovery with the proper heartworm treatment.

The vet, understanding our situation, generously reduced the cost of the treatment to $600. However, due to River's weight, the treatment cost will increase to approximately $750. The treatment involves rounds of antibiotics, a series of three shots, other medications, and monthly heartworm medication for the rest of his life.

River is a wonderful dog who gets along well with other dogs, children, and people. He has become a favorite at the dog park and is training very well. He has found his forever home with me and my dog, and I am committed to giving him the love and care he deserves.
