Recently, our mate, Luke R Davies had a stroke.
It occurred in the brain stem and was brought about by pneumonia which had progressed to sepsis. It has affected his mobility, co-ordination, swallow reflex and compromised his speech. It has also meant that he can’t perform his music or work. But, Luke being the bloody inspiration that he is, is working hard on the muscle control he needs to walk, speak coherently and swallow. Since the stroke
, he has invested all of his energy into rehab and continues to attend almost daily medical appointments on his road to recovery. His beautiful partner, Cass, has become his carer. What you may not know
is that Luke is not only a wonderful musician and songwriter, he and Cass have been great supporters of other musicians and songwriters. They have opened their home many times to hold house concerts for passing musicians. They have both lobbied to lift the profile of the arts in regional Victoria; Luke even ran for council on an environmental and arts based ticket.
Luke has offered his talents as an instrument maker to schools and community organizations and introduced the idea of being a sustainable musician by providing beautiful recycled instruments to his local area and to the national folk music community. He has also been a guest artist on other muso’s albums. Such is the generosity of the man, he even drove from Wangaratta to Melbourne to play harmonica on one song and refused payment! Now, Luke and Cass need our support.
Bills don’t stop, the mortgage still has to be paid and there are extra costs associated with medical treatment. This campaign is a very practical way that you can help Luke and Cass
adjust to their new life, and support Luke while he learns to use his new abilities.
So, give Luke and Cass a hand by contributing to the campaign. Thank you for your generosity and kindness.
