Give Michael A Voice

Michael is a 10 year old little boy with Optic Nerve Hypoplasia. He is legally blind and non-verbal autistic. Teaching him is very difficult. Many of the methods you can use for blind children won’t work because he is autistic, and many of the methods you can use for autistic children don’t work because he is blind.

I would like to raise money to get Michael an AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) device. AAC devices have been extremely beneficial in giving autistic children their own voice and a way to express themselves without resorting to anger and frustration.

The device that was recommended is called the Tobii Dynavox Indi. It is much less expensive than many of the other specialized AAC devices, which can cost upwards of $4,000. Getting the device with software and accessories (heavy duty case/keyguard, etc) will cost $1,500.
