Give Dina a hand

Donation protected
Went to check on the patient yesterday - her hand looks amazing! She is doing physical therapy at home and for the first time today she can touch her ring finger to her thumb!!! Range of motion is first priority and once she has achieved an acceptable range of motion she will work on her strength.

Thank you to everyone who donated! Your support means everything to Dina.

UPDATE:  Dina has surgery scheduled for 10/26 and an approximate total - $10,339. ER and ambulance bills (see photos) are already rolling in and she will need to pay for her surgery 2 days before the procedure. The surgeon could only provide a verbal estimate. The first surgery is $4262 and a second one 6 weeks later will be $2901. The surgeon has advised that she will have a lot of stiffness in her hand once both surgeries are complete so she will need to go through physical therapy and that cost is to be determined depending on how many sessions she will need.

Thank you to all who have donated and sent well wishes!!! I will keep everyone updated on her progress

This past Tuesday, my good friend and kitty nanny Dina Walton fell after leaving work, with her left ring finger taking the brunt of the impact - a gruesome dislocation.  Treatment in the emergency room revealed she had further injuries - a puncture wound from the dislocated bone and a metacarpal fracture.  Her finger was popped back in place, the wound was debrided and stitched up, and her hand was put in a splint.

On Friday, she went in for a follow up with a hand surgeon, who recommended surgery to wash out the wound to prevent a painful and dangerous bone infection, and ensure that the ligaments that were snapped when the finger was dislocated will grow back correctly and to prevent any long term pain from the misalignment that will likely result without surgery.

Like many Americans, Dina is uninsured and the ambulance and ER bills are already overwhelming enough, making the surgery out of the question financially.  Dina is a wonderful friend, person and pet lover.  She works in a feline hospital and pet sits for numerous cats in the Atlanta area.  She helped me so much over the last year and a half with my terminally ill cat who she loved like her own, and even was with us when we let him go.  I was with her in the ER and it is the least I can do to further help her get this injury taken care of.

As with any hospital visit, Dina will probably get a bill before her pain goes away, and without being physically able to do her regular pet sitting jobs, meeting her financial obligations will be challenging.  We all have good times and bad times, and any donation you can make will help us get Dina through this truly horrible time.  No amount is too small.

Thank you!
