Ich möchte (muß) mich heute mit einer wenig erfreulichen Sache an euch wenden. Ich werde versuchen, mich kurz zu fassen.

 

Cassandra (meine Älteste) hat Brustkrebs im dritten Stadium. Sie wurde mit einem Tumor von 7.5cm Durchmesser in der linken Brust und mit 9 weiteren von bis zu 2mm Größe in den umliegenden Lymphknoten diagnostiziert. So, noch kürzer geht es nicht. 

 

Wir wissen es schon seit Januar, aber Cassandra wollte es nicht an die große Glocke hängen. Sie ist unglaublich stark und wollte kein Mitleid. Sie hat durch 6 Behandlungen Chemo voll durch gearbeitet. Das ist eine schon fast übermenschliche Leistung. Ich bin wahnsinnig stolz auf sie. Das Problem ist nur, die Chemo hat nicht angeschlagen. Der Tumor ist nicht ein bißchen geschrumpft. Daraufhin haben wir zu anderen Methoden gegriffen.

 

Wir haben bereits während der Chemo in geringen Dosen mit Cannabis gearbeitet (immer unter Abstimmung mit den Ärzten), überwiegend, um die Chemo zu unterstützen und die Nebenwirkungen im Rahmen zu halten. Als wir merkten, daß die Chemo nicht greift, haben wir die schweren Kanonen aufgefahren. 

 

Ich habe in den letzten 6 Wochen vor der Operation Cassandra's Cannabis-Dosis zweimal verdoppelt, so daß sie jetzt auf einer Menge ist, die sie grade so weg steckt, ohne ständig high zu sein. Mit Erfolg! Wir haben es in diesen 6 Wochen geschafft, den Tumor von 7.5cm um über die Hälfte auf 3.5cm zu schrumpfen mit dem Resultat, daß sie am 20.06.18 operiert werden konnte ohne die ganze Brust entfernen zu müssen, sondern nur den Tumor und das umliegende Gewebe. Die Metastasen in den Lymphknoten sind alle vollkommen verschwunden.Laut der Folgeuntersuchung ist sie (zumindest für jetzt) tumorfrei. Die ganze Sache hat nur eine unangenehme Nebenwirkung. Die Cannabis Kur kostet mich im Monat über €1,200! Dazu kommen Kosten für die recht teure Diät, die Hormonkur und vieles mehr. Diese Therapie muss jetzt noch ein Jahr weiter geführt werden, um alle noch im Körper nzirkulierenden Krebszellen zu eliminieren. Wir setzen zwar die Dosis etwas runter, aber die Kosten belaufen sich immer noch auf ca. €1,000 im Monat.

 

Und darum wende ich mich jetzt an euch. Wir haben unsere Mittel weitgehendst ausgeschöpft. Wir haben unsere Reserven aufgebraucht, unsere Lebenshaltungskosten auf ein Minimum gesenkt. Sämtliche Urlaube abgesagt (außer bei Verwandtschaft, wo wir nichts bezahlen) und einen Kredit aufgenommen. Auch unsere Familien haben großzügig ausgeholfen. Aber jetzt brauchen wir Eure Unterstützung.

 

Wie ihr Euch vorstellen könnt, fällt es mir nicht einfach, darum zu bitten, aber ich möchte hiermit einen Fundraiser starten, der uns bei den finanziellen Hürden helfen soll, die uns durch den Krebs in den Weg gelegt werden. Wenn ihr ein wenig Wechselgeld rumliegen habt (keine Spende ist zu klein oder zu groß) dann wäre es großartig, wenn ihr uns damit helfen könntet. Nach dem oben erwähnten Jahr kann Cassandra auf eine geringere (einfacher zu finanzierende) Dosis umsteige, die sie dann für den Rest ihres Lebens beibehalten muß, um zu verhindern, daß der Krebs wiederkommt. Auch die Hormonkur wird von uns selber bezahlt und muß für die nächsten 10 Jahre durchgeführt werden. Das nächste Jahr wird also nochmal hart, und ich kann jede Unterstützung brauchen, die ich kriegen kann.

I would like to (have to) approach you today with a rather unpleasant matter. I will try to be brief.

 

Cassandra (my oldest) has third-stage breast cancer. She was diagnosed with a tumor of 7.5 cm diameter in the left breast and 9 others of up to 2 mm in size in the surrounding lymph nodes. Ok, that's as brief as I can make it. 

 

We've known since January, but Cassandra did not want to make a fuss. She is incredibly strong and did not want any pity. She carried on working through all 6 chemo treatments! That's an almost superhuman achievement. I'm so proud of her. The problem is, the chemo did not make any difference whatsoever. The tumor did not shrink a bit. So we decided to resort to other methods.

 

We were already using cannabis at low doses during chemo (always in consultation with the doctors), mostly to support the chemo and keep the side effects under control. When we realized that the chemo was not working, we upped the game. 

 

I doubled Cassandra's dose of cannabis twice over a period of 6 weeks before the operation so she's now on a dosage that she can just stand without being constantly high. With success! In those 6 weeks we managed to shrink the tumor from 7.5cm by more than half to 3.5cm with the result that it could be operated on on the 20.06.18 without having to remove the entire breast, but only the Tumor and the surrounding tissue. The metastases in the lymph nodes are all completely gone! According to the follow-up Cassandra is (at least for now) tumor-free! The whole thing has just one rather unpleasant side effect. The cannabis cure costs me over € 1,200 a month! In addition there are costs for the quite expensive diet, the hormone cure and much more. This therapy must be continued for another year to eliminate all cancer cells still circulating in the body. Although we set the dose down a bit, but the cost still amounts to about € 1,000 a month.

 

And that's why I'm approaching you now. We have largely exhausted our resources. We used up our reserves and kept our living costs to a minimum. All holidays canceled (except for relatives, where we do not pay anything) and a loan. Our families have generously helped out too. But now we need your support.

 

As you can imagine, I do not find it easy to ask, but I would like to start a fundraiser to help us with the financial hurdles that cancer puts in our way. If you have some change lying around (no donation is too small or too big) then it would be great if you could help us out with it. After the year mentioned above Cassandra can switch to a lower (easier-to-finance) dose, which she then has to keep up for the rest of her life to prevent the cancer from returning. The hormone cure is also being paid for by us and must be carried out for the next 10 years. So the next year is going to be tough again, and I need all the support I can get.

Quería compartir con Uds. un asunto bastante desagradable. Trataré de ser breve.

 

Cassandra (mi hija mayor) tiene cáncer de mama en tercera etapa. A ella le fue diagnosticado un tumor de 7.5 cm de diámetro en el seno izquierdo y otros nueve tumores de hasta 2 mm de tamaño, en los ganglios linfáticos circundantes. Bueno, esto es un resumen bastante corto para no alargarme más por aquí.

 

Conocimos la fatal noticia en el mes de enero, porque Cassandra no quería alarmarnos con el tema de su enfermedad. Ella es increíblemente fuerte y no quería ningún tipo de consuelo. ¡Incluso continuó con su trabajo durante los tratamientos de quimioterapia! Fue un esfuerzo casi sobrehumano y estoy muy orgulloso de ella. 

El problema fue que el tratamiento de quimioterapia no dio el resultado esperado, en absoluto, y el tumor se redujo ni un poco. Fue entonces cuando decidimos recurrir a otros métodos.

 

Ya usábamos el cannabis en dosis bajas durante la quimioterapia (siempre en consulta con los médicos), principalmente para apoyar en la quimioterapia y mantener los efectos secundarios bajo control. Cuando nos dimos cuenta de que la quimioterapia no funcionaba, aumentamos la dosis. Dupliqué la dosis de marihuana de Cassandra dos veces, durante un período de 6 semanas 

antes de la operación, por lo que ahora toma una dosis alta pero que puede soportar sin 

sentirse aturdida. ¡Fue un éxito! Durante esas 6 semanas se logro reducir el tamaño del tumor, de 7.5 cm que media, se redujo a más de la mitad, paso a medir solo 3.5 cm, y así podría ser operada el 20.06.18 y además sin tener que extirpar el seno completo, solamente se extrajo el tumor y el tejido mamario circundante. ¡Las metástasis en los ganglios linfáticos desaparecieron por completo!

 

Según el seguimiento, Cassandra está (al menos por ahora) libre de tumores. Aunque todo tiene su lado desagradable. ¡El tratamiento con cannabis me cuesta más de 

1.200 € al mes! Además, hay que añadir el coste para la dieta bastante cara, el tratamiento de hormonas y muchas cosas más. Esta terapia debe continuarse por lo menos, durante otro año más , para eliminar todas las células cancerígenas que todavía circulan en su cuerpo. Aunque redujimos la dosis un poco, el coste todavía asciende más o menos de 1.000€ por mes.

 

Y es por todo lo anterior por lo que acudimos a Uds. ahora. Hemos agotado nuestros recursos económicos en gran medida. Hemos invertido nuestros ahorros y hemos reducido nuestros nivel de de vida al mínimo. Hemos cancelados todas las vacaciones, fiestas y cualquier gasto superfluo (exceptuando los viajes de visita a familiares, donde no tenemos casi gastos) y hemos incluso solicitado un préstamo. Nuestras familias también han ayudado generosamente. Pero ahora necesitamos tu ayuda también. 

 

Como se pueden imaginar, no me resulta fácil pedir, pero me gustaría comenzar una 

recaudación de fondos, para ayudarnos con los obstáculos financieros que el cáncer pone en nuestro camino. Si tiene algún dinero suelto por ahí (ninguna donación es demasiado pequeña o demasiado grande),sería fantástico si pudieran ayudarnos. Después del año mencionado anteriormente, 

Cassandra puede cambiar a una dosis más baja (más fácil de financiar), que luego debe 

mantener durante el resto de su vida para evitar que el cáncer regrese. El tratamiento 

hormonal también está siendo pagada por nosotros y debe llevarse a cabo durante los 

próximos 10 años. Así que el próximo año va a ser difícil nuevamente, y necesito todo el apoyo que pueda conseguir.
