Gino’s preemie journey

Donation protected
Our wee Gino Alessandro Savarese came fighting into the world almost 7 weeks early, he battled as soon as he entered this world, from neonatal intensive care, high dependency care, special care baby unit low dependancy care to transitional care our perfect little fighter Gino is home now, it’s been 16 weeks a few further scares and there has been hospital stays and continues to have routine checks to ensure he is growing and as comfortable as possible. It’s been so hard for all our friends and family, emotionally, financially and mentally!! So how do you even begin to appreciate all the amazing hero’s at wishaw hospital and all the medical teams involved ? So myself and brother in law have decided to do the Edinburgh kilt walk (15th September 2019) to raise some money to dedicate directly to those involved in Gino’s care as an NHS staff nurse myself I know even a some amount of gesture is greatly appreciated therefore any donations will be divided between those involved with our little precious preemie fighter Gino

His journey ......
He was born in wishaw hospital in Scotland, I went into labour 6 weeks and 4 days early for no reason and not signs it just happened, he was delivered naturally and taken away straight after birth and put into an incubator as he was unable to breath , maintain his body temperature or eat on his own and slowly he began to get better, myself, my partner and my 1 year old son was given a hospital flat to stay on the hospital grounds 24/7 so we could be there as much as possible, I am an NHS staff nurse and actually called my boss on the ward to tell them i could not make my shift the next day as i was in labour !! My other half was self employed which meant he had to stop working too with no income and me going to maternity pay instantly and not having everything we needed for the baby and already having a 1 year old it was extremely hard for us. Since Gino has been discharged he has had a further 2 hospital admissions because he suffered breathing apnoea and another for gastro issues, he was born with a murmur and is heart is constantly tachycardia but with no yet known reason, which is still ongoing with the neonatal doctor he also has GORD which is really hard to manage he seems to be in a lot of pain a lot we are still trying different medications to help, he’s on medication 3 times a day and that seems to be helping and he’s now beginning to turn a corner and becoming more content, he’s been through a lot for only 4 months old but between our fantastic NHS and our family we have had the strength to keep going and our wee fighter Gino is just our little miracle.

What an amazing team is our NHS and we don’t even know how to express our gratitude but we thought this was a little expression, thank you for taking the time and reading our story
