Ginger helps me, please help me help her

My dog, Ginger, has torn the CCL (Canine Cruciate Ligament-effectively the canine ACL) in both her legs. The one in her left leg has totally ruptured, and the meniscus in that leg has also torn. The one in her right leg is in better shape, but not by much. While this condition is not fatal, it is very painful. My baby girl no longer chases rabbits or squirrels, she cannot easily go up or down stairs, she walks with a significant limp, she can’t sit normally, and she struggles to hop onto her chair or bed. She is not the happy, active 4 ½ year old dog she should be. The fix for this condition is surgery, and it is expensive-$3,500 per leg. The surgery would need to happen on both legs, one at a time about 6 months apart. Prognosis is good, with about 85-90% of dogs returning to normal activity, if aftercare is done with diligence. That aftercare would primarily involve heavily restricted activity for 2 months post op, with a gradual increase in activity after that point to regain strength. I would like the first surgery to happen before I start graduate school in late September. Now, I’m sure some of you are thinking that it is unreasonable or unrealistic for me to consider spending this kind of money on my dog-she’s just a pet, after all. Well, Ginger is not “just a pet.” She got me through the worst of my mental health problems. There were days that the only reason I got out of bed was because she needed to eat and go out. She made me feel safe enough to fall asleep at night. She licked the tears off my face. She kept me from going down the very dark road of true suicidal ideation. Her love is totally unconditional. Even if you still think spending that kind of money on a pet is unreasonable, I am asking that you keep that opinion to yourself. Same with suggestions for surrendering her to a shelter or euthanizing her. I have heard them, and I can say with absolute certainty they are far more hurtful than helpful. I have thought through this choice very carefully. If you have a few pennies or dollars to spare, I would truly appreciate a donation towards Ginger’s quality of life. Thank you for reading, and thank you for helping my baby girl.
