Gina's Psychiatric Inpatient Stay

My name is Gina. I'm 24 years old and I suffer from Major Depressive Disorder (also known as clinical depression), Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, and A.D.H.D. to the point I'm unable to function normally on a day-to-day basis.

Recently I made the decision that I need to admit myself to a psychiatric hospital for an inpatient stay. Fortunately , I have been accepted to the psychiatric unit at Johns Hopkins University in the United States to recieve mental health treatment. They are rated as one of the top five university hospitals in the country for psychiatric care.

I do have health insurance, but they only cover some of the costs. I'm left having to pay over $3,600 U.S. dollars out of pocket and up front before being admitted.

Currently, I am unemployeed. I've come to realize I need to receive the proper treatment before I will be able to hold a decent job and find a career.

At one point, I couldn't leave my house for nearly two weeks because of the anxiety of being around so many people. There are times where I will cry uncontrollably for days on end. I've had issues with depression since I was eight years old and took notice of my anxiety later in life. I've been on many different medications through and none have seemed to work. Right now I'm on the maximum dose of Zoloft and also take anti anxiety meds. Not to mention the several therapists and psychiatrists I've seen over the years. My current psychologist is awesome but agreed an inpatient stay would be beneficial to me.

My depression worsened when my six year relationship ended for good. Lack of self worth, suicide ideation, lack of direction in life. My average healthy weight was between 105 and 110 lbs. With depression eating at my body, the lowest I ever got down to was 92 lbs. Within the past few months I have been able to gain a good amount of the weight back.

I want to feel what happiness is like. I want to be a functioning member of society. The goal is to pursue a career in nature photography and expose as much of the beauty this planet has to offer as I can. Not only that, but I want to gain the courage to get in front of the camera and start doing YouTube again as a continuation of this open conversation about mental health and the limited access to treatment most people have.

If and when the goal is hit, all donations after that will go towards helping to rebuild my life; things such as professional clothing, a healthy diet, ongoing psychotherapy, medications, and other holistic treatments.
