My name is Wyatt Turner. I am in 7th grade at Gettys Middle School in Easley, South Carolina. I have an awesome English teacher, Mrs. Doud. She inspired us this year to do something helpful for our community, and a project called Socksgiving was born. Students organized every aspect of Socksgiving, from concept to promotion to gaining support from our elected officials. In the end, we managed to collect over fifteen hundred pairs of socks to give to those in need in our community.
Our efforts gained us recognition, as well as an opportunity to attend WE Day in Chicago, Illinois this year. You can’t buy a ticket to WE Day—you have to be invited to attend, and invitations are earned through service. We earned a total of 14 tickets for students in Mrs. Doud's classes!
At We Day, we’ll celebrate our accomplishments, meet other students around the country who are doing exactly the same thing in their communities, and learn how to continue to make a difference back home. We Day will inspire us, motivate us, and further our educations.
We have worked so hard, and have learned so much, and WE Day means the world to us. While tickets to attend WE day are free, transportation to get there is not. The cost for each student's airfare is estimated to be around $300. We’ll also have expenses like food, transportation around the city, and enrichment activities like museums, which are estimated to be around $200.
Money shouldn’t determine the kids who get to go and the kids who are left out of this life-changing experience, so we’re raising funds so every kid who won a spot to WE Day can attend. All money raised will go towards WE Day expenses, and should there be funds left over, we’ll be donating them back to the community with the oversight of our teacher, Mrs. Doud.
Your donation will directly support the next generation of leaders, and we promise we’ll post updates about our trip and all of the amazing stuff we’ve learned. Thank you so much for making a difference in our lives - your giving gives us the world.
