Hiya, I'm Tamara!
Thank you for taking an interest in my story, the video below will give you more insight into my journey thus far, my hopes for my masters and why I desperately need your help!
As mentioned, I have been offered a place at the University of Cambridge to study a MPhil in Psychology & Education, due to start in October 2020. I hope to research how psychology can be used to improve educational outcomes- specifically for low income learners or those from disadvantaged backgrounds. My research interest very much parallels my own educational experience in that, I was a learner from a low income and BAME background.
Long term, I hope to create an educational initiative which aims to use psychological intervention to boost educational outcomes in children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. It is my goal that this educational initiative will develop interpersonal skills, create social support networks and improve the psychological wellbeing of disadvantaged students. Consequently, I believe that studying at Cambridge will be the first step in achieving this dream.
Why I need your help?
I have until the 21st of August to meet the final condition of my offer which is the funding of my course. If not, sadly my offer will be withdrawn. The university estimates that I need £12,000 for living costs and accommodation and my tuition fees are around £11,000.
Thus far, I have applied for internal funding opportunities both across the University of Cambridge and within my accepted college (Wolfson College), but have been unsuccessful in both rounds of funding. I have also applied to external funding sources such as the Black Heart Foundation, but I am yet to hear back from such opportunities regarding the outcome. So, I appeal to you for your support and to be part of my journey!
