Gayle's path to recovery

Donation protected

Our Story
Gayle is a mother to three beautiful children and grandmother to three grandchildren. She is a sister, a cousin, and a friend to many others. Gayle is my big sister, we are the only children of our late Mother Jacqueline . We were both born on the Southside of Chicago near Hyde Park.

We both lived in Jamaica as children and attended Priory School. Later, we both returned to the United States to attend college. My sister was always an excellent student, and attended Stanford university in 1971 where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Anthropology. Later, she attended the University of California were she completed her PhD.

Gayle traveled extensively working on a lot of different projects focusing on social injustice, the death penalty, sex trafficing, Hiv/Aids, and child malnutritinon just to name a few. She also taught at different colleges and universities.

Our story was abruptly interupted

On May 4, 2017 while in Costa Rica tragedy struck when she sustained a tramatic brain injury from a gun shot. Gayle managed to beat the odds and survived with the help of some good doctors.

It is extremely difficult for her family to know what she needs to recover, and not have the resources to make it happen.

OUR IMMEDIATE GOAL

To raise the funds to keep Gayle on the path to recovery.
Getting Gayle back home from Costa Rica was a major accomplishment and truly saved her life.

Now the family is faced with ongoing bills to maintain the excellent care she is getting and the vital physical therapy which is her only chance at recovery and quality of life. We have spent thousands of dollars in last 2 months toward her care and no longer have the resources to continue ,despite our commitment to help her get better.

The funds we are asking for now will keep her in the facility she is in till the end of the year . Cost $8,000 after any coverage afforded by insurance.

She also needs daily physical therapy at an outside facility which requires another $875.00 in transportation costs  after any insurance coverage .

All of her doctors have said that the continued care she is currently receiving in her current facility and Physical is the key to her recovery.

If you need more information on my sister or our family please leave a comment below but whatever you do please donate anything that you can.

Thank you.
