Get your Goombay on at Miss Emily's Blue Bee Bar

Donation protected
This is an all-out appeal to help a family and an Abaco institution - a beloved bar and restaurant - Miss Emily's Blue Bee Bar.  Many of you know that Hurricane Dorian devastated Abaco.  The Blue Bee on Green Turtle Cay is only one of many businesses in Abaco that was destroyed.  If you've been to the Blue Bee you know it's not a bar in an American sense, but rather a multi-generational community/family gathering place, where the famous Goombay Smash was invented.  This bar epitomizes the spirit and warmth of Abaco, and especially of Green Turtle Cay.  It's a must-visit destination where multiple generations of families return year after year - until Dorian.

The Legacy of Miss Emily's now belongs to Violet Smith, Miss Emily's daughter.  She and her husband Hubert (Smitty) operate the Blue Bee with the help of their daughters.  Not only did they lose their home to Dorian but they lost the family business.  The process of rebuilding has been sadly made more difficult by a worldwide pandemic.  This business is not just an Abaco institution, it's the financial means of an entire family.

There are four things you can do for this family and Miss Emily's: (1) donate so that they can employ local labor to rebuild the bar, (2) keep the family in your thoughts and prayers, (3) share this campaign with any friend that has enjoyed the Blue Bee hospitality, and (4) as soon as you are able return to Green Turtle any purchase a gallon (or more) of Goombay Smash.

On a personal note: there are several deserving and wonderful establishments to support, but this is an historic site, with a colorful past, and IS the center of New Plymouth life and where Junkanoo culminates.  I personally have spent many hours at Miss Emily's - I've met rocket scientists, doctors, sailboat bums, software developers, real estate moguls, and every walk of life it seems, but at Miss Emily's - we're all just regular folks enjoying the flow of locals in and out of the bar, the chatter of children on the playground out front, the sizzle and smell of coconut crusted lobster coming out of the kitchen, and not the least - the happy buzz (the Blue Bee Goombay Sting) and the gracious spirt of Violet and Smitty!  Please, help me in helping this family get back to operating their business, serving guests and community alike.
