Get Wardy Back in Action

With crits back this week in Canberra, there is one face that will be missing from the Men’s A Grade start line, Tristan Ward (aka Wardy). Wardy has been suffering from severe spinal injuries since early 2020 which has seen him not only give up the ability to ride but almost the ability to walk and subsequently work in his Jim’s Mowing business that he only recently purchased.
For those of you that don’t know Wardy, he is not only an awesome cyclist but a serious character in Australian cycling. Racing for NRS Team, Bridgelane (formerly Bennelong SwissWellness), he has won races in the National Road Series, podiumed at the Australian National Criterium and raced overseas in Europe, China and Korea.
For the last 4 months Wardy has been suffering from a herniated disc which means he hasn’t been able to work, ride or walk properly. This disc is bulging from his spine and catching on his S1 Nerve causing severe pain down his leg. He is in constant pain. Medication offers him no relief. Surgery is his only option to recovery. He could be walking again in 5 weeks, however the price of surgery is $22,000. Wardy is currently on the wait list in the public system, however this is a six month wait before he even gets an appointment. By this point the chance of 100% recover will go down to 85%.
We know that Wardy would never ask for help – so we are doing this for Wardy. Let’s help to raise funds to help get Wardy the treatment he needs. One thing is for certain and that’s the fact that no 25 year old should be in this position dealing with this alone. The beauty of the cycling industry is that you are always surrounded by a community who is willing to step up when things don’t go as planned. If anything, we want to remind you, Wardy, that you are not alone in this and we are here for you mate.
