...Islington Borough Ladies FC is a community football club based in the London borough of Islington whose mission is to empower girls to play to their full potential - to develop a strong sense of team work, a respect for fairness and to enjoy all aspects of the beautiful game.
We strive to create opportunities for all abilities and ages and are on our way to becoming a recognised deaf aware club and currently have a deaf training assistant coach working with the u12s, 2 deaf girls playing in the u12s team and going along to this tournament as well as another young girl making great strides in the u14s team.
This year we have an opportunity for our Under 12’s team to attend the Gothia Cup in Sweden. The Gothia Cup is the world’s largest and most international youth football tournament, with around 1700 teams from over 80 nations taking part.
Although there is a huge appetite for girls football at a grassroots level in the UK, there continues to be a serious lack of funding. But we don’t want this lack of funding to be a barrier to the girls participating in such a wonderfully diverse and inclusive tournament and to getting an opportunity to realise their full capabilities.
We have applied for numerous community grants to help fund this trip and have successfully secured £2800. In addition, our enthusiastic Under 12s are putting together further fundraising ideas to help make their own contributions.
Any donation you could make, however small, would make a significant impact on making The Gothia Cup a reality for the girls. We hope that this sort of opportunity will help to create strong ambassadors for women’s football of the future, not only as players, but as coaches and referees.
