Help get Ray Reid back on his feet

Donation protected
On Saturday, August 25 Ray was hit by an SUV while riding his motorcycle.  The accident occured at the intersection of Routes 9 & 47 in Hadley, MA.  While Ray was proceeding through a green light, the driver of the SUV made a left turn across the intersection. The SUV hit Ray on the left side and Ray's body was struck before he was pinned beneath his motorcycle.

Thankfully, Ray is a responsible bike rider and was wearing a helmet but there is little that a biker can do to protect their body when struck by 4,000 lb vehicle.  The direct impact of the SUV to Ray's body resulted in several fractured ribs, a broken ankle and a fractured spine which required an emergency surgery to repair as there was concern for paralysis.

The spinal surgery went well but Ray will need several months of rehabilitation before he is able to walk without assistance - the broken ankle further complicates his recovery.  While medical and auto insurance will help to cover the cost of the hospital and surgery, he is only able to stay in rehabilitation for 2 weeks (doctors recommend 4-6 weeks for best recovery) and then he will need to be discharged to heal from home.

During the months that Ray will be recovering, he will be unable to work as he cannot sit for extended periods and is employed as a short-haul truck driver.  Ray will have no primary income during this time, which puts his home in jeopardy as the mortgage bills don't pay themselves!

Ray is a kind and gentle soul, he has been riding motorcycles all of his adult life and rides responsibly and with pride.  Despite being banged up, in pain and having a long road ahead to recovery we are so grateful that Ray made it through this crash.

Please rally together with us  to help make this long recovery period less stressful for Ray.  The trauma of the crash, fractured spine and inability to walk is debilitating enough, without the added stress of worrying about losing a home.

We are hoping to raise enough to help him pay his mortgage and upkeep his home for at least the next 3-4 months until he can determine if he will be able to work again.

We will continue to keep  you updated as Ray recovers and thank you all for loving and caring about Ray as much as we do.

xoxo
