Helping this man grieve a great loss with his family across the world. On October 18, 2017, Gbenga’s 45-year-old brother passed away from an illness. It has been about 10 years since Gbenga has seen his family in Nigeria. Please help us give him the means to travel home.
Gbenga grew up with his grandmother and brothers in Nigeria, where they faced frequent and brutal village raids. He witnessed some of humanity’s worst as a young man. Rooted in this experience, he dedicated himself to young men and women going through their most trying times. As a leader of an afterschool program, many Nigerian students confided in him when life beat them down. He guided students through domestic violence, substance abuse, behavioral disorders, and death through illness and civil war. Determined to help his community heal, Gbenga moved to the US to further his education. He plans to return to Nigeria armed with knowledge and passion to counsel and teach the youth of Nigeria.
Even through everything he’s witnessed and experienced, Gbenga manages to be a bright light to his friends and coworkers in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Every morning, he greets his coworkers with an infectious laugh and an exuberant “HOLA!” He faces each day with a vigor and enthusiasm that most people would lose through the trials he’s faced.
Gbenga is a proud man and is unaware that we’re raising money like this. He is not the type to ask for help, so we hope we can make this happen for him. All funds raised will be given directly to Gbenga for the purposes of purchasing an airline ticket and incidental costs on his trip. Any remaining funds will be used to support his family during this difficult time.
Gbenga deserves to grieve properly with close family and friends. Please help us get him there.
