Help Crystal get to Capitol Hill
I’m Crystal Ruiz. I’m a senior at UC Santa Cruz, majoring in Sociology and Legal Studies.
After a long and arduous application process, I was accepted into an exclusive program called UCDC to study policy in Washington DC.
The only challenge is that I can’t afford this incredible opportunity. I’ve worked hard to get to where I am. I’m the first person in my family to go to college, and I rely entirely on financial aid to finance my undergrad. Even with intense budgeting, working full-time, and selling my car, I still can’t afford this program. I’ve done everything I could on my own to get myself there, but I’ve come up short. It’s hard for me to ask for help, but this program could be the gateway to a career in education reform.
The estimated cost of this program is $13,000, and UCDC Alumni have shared that living expenses in DC are higher than what they've experienced while at UCSC.
I’m hoping that through any amount of donation, big or small, from family, friends, or even strangers, I can raise enough to attend the program.
This program, and the public policy internship I hope to get while I’m there may give me the opportunity to obtain a career in education reform with an emphasis in underprivileged communities.
Please help me get to Capitol Hill so that someday I can be the change and inspiration for youth like me, who barely graduated from high school, to reach new heights I never thought possible even for myself.
