ABOUT US

Black Hound Productions is an award-winning independent theatre company based in Somerset. 5 years since its creation, the company are still creating innovative, original work and are off to the Edinburgh Fringe with TWO original pieces in August 2022. Since 2016 it has been the goal of Black Hound to take a show to the prestigious and world-renowned Edinburgh Fringe Festival. We are raising money to take two incredible projects to the Edinburgh Fringe!

OUR FRINGE MISSION

Since Black Hound Productions was created by a group of 15-year-olds in 2016, we have wanted to take a show to the Edinburgh Fringe. This year we will be taking TWO original shows written by Patrick Withey to the Fringe during its 75th Anniversary year, and we couldn’t be more excited!

In recent years it has felt like grief is all around us. After losing his beloved Grampy in 2020, Patrick has been working on a new piece titled, Seeds of Memories inspired by a poem he wrote about his Grandfather when he was 14. The piece, a modern day folk story exploring the magic of Memories and the power of Nature, is filled to the brim with spoken word and puppetry. It's an uplifting yet frank retelling of an experience we have all shared and yet rarely talk about.

Alright? is a brutally honest and often humorous look at Men's Mental Health. The piece was developed during Patricks time at Bath Theatre Academy, drawing on the experiences of both himself and his friends, creating a refreshing piece focusing on the often mundane shared experiences of living with poor mental health. The original production, directed by Benjamin Hardy-Phillips and starring Dillon Berry, played at the Merlin Theatre in February 2020, receiving glowing reviews and four stars from Confessions of a Five Foot Two Actress. Now, two years on, the production is being adapted for Fringe theatre, and we cannot wait to take it to Edinburgh, spreading the important message to reach out and talk to one another, asking the question of how do we cope when things are not Alright?

Both shows are extremely close to our hearts, and we are incredibly excited to realise them at the Edinburgh Fringe.

ABOUT THE FRINGE

The Edinburgh Fringe is one of the world's biggest arts festivals showcasing some of the world’s finest talents all over the gorgeous city of Edinburgh. The Edinburgh Fringe will allow Black Hound Productions to venture beyond the south west, and target a worldwide audience, showcasing original writing that is important to us. We think that ‘Alright?’ and ‘Seeds of Memories’ are two important pieces that worldwide audiences should see, and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival is exactly the place to do that…. The only downside is, it’s expensive! To reach this audience, tell our story, and showcase our work, Black Hound Productions need to raise a lot. Here are some examples of what we are fundraising for:

  • Venues for TWO different shows
  • Publicity materials for TWO shows (flyers, posters, digital marketing, press adverts)
  • Travel and accommodation for our 9 hard working cast/crew members
  • Insurance and music rights for BOTH of our performances
  • Fringe Society Fees
  • Brochures
  • The list goes on!
