Help Amiera Swim

Hi my name is Jennifer and I am fundraising to:

Help get my daughter Amiera continue to represent Canada at future International Down Syndrome Swimming Championships.

Amiera is a 16 year old grade 10 student Ontario, Canada with her mother, older brother and younger sister. She loves movies, dancing and swimming. Amiera is generous, helpful and the joy in whatever room she enters.

Amiera has been swimming since she was just 5 months old and started competing with an “able-bodied” swim team when she was 6 years. Currently swimming with the Wilmot Aquatic Aces, Amiera has been able to broaden her racing opportunities and is now competing as an Ontario Para Swimmer as well as with Special Olympics Ontario. Prior to CoVid shutdowns, Amiera won multiple Gold Medals in her para division at the Ontario Provincial Championships and was also ready to represent her Region at the Special Olympics Provincial Championships before Covid shut things down.

Amiera has also joined The Canadian Down Syndrome Swimming Association. She helped represent Canada at the10th World Down Syndrome Swimming Championships in Albufeira, Portugal in October 2022 where she won 4 gold medals and 4 silver medals in the Junior Age Group division. 

However, unlike the Canadian Olympic Team or even Special Olympics Teams, there is a lack of awareness and in turn funding for these individuals with Down Syndrome and as a result each swimmer is required to fundraise for themselves each time they travel to compete. 

Our next World Down Syndrome Championships will be in Turkey, March of 2024 so our fundraising efforts continue. 

Amiera helps wherever and whenever she can - whether it’s picking up garbage in the community, volunteering or simply cheering and supporting her teammates, classmates, friends and family. Our hope is that the community will continue to come together to help her reach her next goal.
