Thank You! Alan now in hills and mountains again!

Hi I'm Alan's wife Dawn. We've been married for 17 years and have a 13 year old daughter. Originally from the North East we moved to the Lake District 10 years ago to embrace our passion for the outdoors. With previous holidays in Scotland and the Lakes, walking in the hills and mountains was a big part of our lives. In early 2017 Alan was devastatingly diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease, but in true 'Alan determination style' Alan has been determined not to let the progression stop him living his life. In fact, after diagnosis, in the September of 2017 we both donned our walking boots and walked the Hadrian Wall walk from Bowness on Solway to Tynemouth, raising money for the MND Association and our local Hospice St Mary's. This was just the beginning and through other various outdoor pursuits, as a family, we've raised over £50,000 for the 2 charities collectively. Unfortunately exploring the outdoors is getting more difficult for Alan and his world is getting smaller and smaller. Having no use of his arms and very limited use of his legs now, Alan relies on a joystick controlled powered Wheelchair to get him around. The wheelchair we have supplied by the NHS is great for city and tarmac exploration but struggles with uneven paths or trails and we've used the small grants from the MND Association to help towards costs to adapt our house. This is the first time we've fundraised for something for Alan and the reason being is, these Wheelchairs are very specific and therefore very expensive, but I know what a huge difference it will make to Alan's quality of life. To be able to join our daughter on a bike ride, or get out in the woods and up into the hills again, really would be dream come true.
