After attending the Barca Academy Camp this summer, Aaron was one of the few and very lucky campers to be invited to train in Barcelona in 2021! Aaron's love for soccer started at a very young age. His involvement with local soccer clubs and camps, not only nurtured his love for the sport, but has helped Aaron to develop as a young boy too! Our once shy son, afraid to play in front of spectators, is now MOST comfortable on the soccer field.
I will never forget the moment when him and I were cuddled on the couch with an ESPN magazine. Messi was on the cover and he wanted me to read the whole article, most of which revolved around the unique personality of the Superstar...quiet, unimpressed by fame, a family man who doesn't care for the spotlight, only the game. Aaron sat quietly listening. And then I read this...
" Messi's first coach at Barcelona's youth academy, Xavier Llorens, says he knew right away that Messi was special because of the way the ball stuck to his foot when he ran -- almost as if it was connected to his shoelaces -- but also, he adds, "he was special because of his shyness." -ESPN June 4th, 2018 (linked below)
Aaron looked up at me and said "Just like me Mommy". The look on his face was priceless. He was realizing that even though he was shy as a person, he could still pursue his dream of being a soccer player. We talked about it for a long time and then he asked me to rip the cover off the magazine and he ran upstairs and taped it on his bedroom door. It stayed there, crooked, but front and center reminding him that he could pursue his dream. It came down just this summer. I almost cried, but it was ok... Aaron didn't need it anymore. It was ripped and faded...but the message was still clear and was (and still is) rooted deep within him.
Today, our talented and determined boy has the opportunity to train in one of the world's most elite and respected clubs. This camp includes training with actual Barcelona coaches, sessions on the Mediterranean beach, lectures from former players, tickets to a La Liga game, opportunities to meet real players and so much more! We know that this experience will become a treasured memory with lifelong lessons that he can pull from his whole soccer career. Please help our family cover the financial burden of getting Aaron, and his 3 biggest supporters, to Barcelona!
