Gerald's fight against kidney cancer

Donation protected
I think anyone that knows our dad would agree with us that he is a wonderful man that would give the shirt off his back if someone needed it. After feeling bad and very weak, going to multiple doctors with no answers, our parents ended up at Thomas Hospital. The next day, Nov 11, the diagnosis of Stage 3, possibly Stage 4, kidney cancer that had moved up an artery to his heart was one that none of us were prepared to hear. After waiting on word of a transfer to UAB for surgery they found out that it was going to take much longer than any of us were willing to wait. Mom and Mawmaw drove Dad to Ochsner in New Orleans. He has been there since Nov 15th. They have run many tests. His bone scan and brain scan came back normal which was great news and we are waiting on a lung biopsy. There is likely surgery soon and still a long road ahead but our family is confident that if anyone can beat this it's Dad. Our parents are not one's to ask for help but this is one way that we felt could ease a little bit of the stress of this situation. Mom and Dad are both self- employed which means there is no sick days for either of them. They are both hard workers. Dad has done construction/remodeling for 30+ years mostly in the Atmore and Monroeville area and is an Army vet. Mom has worked at Angela and Co in Atmore for 18 years and also drives a special needs bus for Escambia County Schools. The needs range from their regular bills, hotel that Mom and Mawmaw are staying in to be close to dad, food and travel expenses. Even with insurance we are not sure what will be left for them to pay. Also if anyone with the school system has days that could be donated to mom through the sick bank that would be greatly appreciated. So many people have asked how they could help so this seemed like the easiest way for family and friends far and wide to help during this time. We appreciate all of the prayers that have been said on behalf of our family❤
