GEORGE LITTLEWOOD -THE SHEFFIELD FLYER

George Littlewood can lay claim to being Sheffields greatest distance runner , apologies to Seb Coe. Jon Brown ,  Carl Thackeray , Jason Ward etc . He still holds the world record for 6 day walking 531 miles , he also held the record for 6 days running 623 miles at Maddison Square Gardens in 1888, record stood for 96 years . He is buried in Darnall Cemetery , his gravestone has fallen over and requires restoration .The Friends of Darnall Cemetery would appreciate the running community supporting this project . Any surplus funds can go towards an interpretative board if appropriate and the work of the group restoring the cemetery .
