Dré’s Gender Affirming Surgery Fundraiser

Donation protected
UPDATES: Hi everyone, it’s been several months since I had my surgery and I appreciate so greatly all of the help I have received. That said, I recently got a surprise bill for over 2,000 that my insurance nor the surgeon did not inform me about, despite my attempts to clarify multiple times before having the surgery how much it would cost. I am currently stuck with a minimum of $270 per month for payments, and am unable to lower this bill. For that reason, I am reaching out to the community again for some assistance in paying these hefty and unexpected fees that I cannot afford. Anything helps, and again, I thank you so much. I will leave my original post below. ———————-- My name is Deandré, and I’m a Black non-binary trans person living in Boston. I am reaching out to the community for assistance in a necessary procedure I have been waiting several years to fulfill. After an array roadblocks and obstacles, I have finally been approved for an April 22nd surgery date here in Boston.

Several years ago I was diagnosed with *Gender Dysphoria, and this surgery will greatly reduce the depression, anxiety, and physical pain that results from this disorder and improve my overall life immensely. For the past three years I have been using tight compression binders to flatten my chest every day, resulting in severe back and shoulder injuries, oftentimes requiring chiropractic therapy. The pain of having to wear my binder 8-10 hours a day has meant I often choose not to engage in recreational and social activities as often as I'd like to, and this has really affected my mental health and wellbeing.

This surgery is a treatment for my Gender Dysphoria as well as medically necessary to relieve pain and prevent further damage to my body. It will completely transform my physical health, mental health, and overall well-being. I have been surviving and I am asking for help to attain tools that will allow me to thrive.

Alongside anticipated surgery and hospital costs, I will need two-weeks off of work for recovery. I have been able to save some money, but ultimately cannot wait until I can save all of it for this surgery, as it's becoming more and more necessary by the day.

I am asking for those who are comfortably able to consider donating to my fund - and everything helps! No amount is too small. If you don't have the means to donate, please consider sharing.

Any extra money donated that does not directly go to my surgery fund will be re-distributed to GoFundMe pages of other trans and non-binary people of color.

I thank you all for reading my story, donating, and sharing.

xoxo,
felix

*Gender Dysphoria is described as the discomfort a person feels with how their body is perceived and allocated a gender by other people. The experience may occur when a person feels their biological or physically assigned sex doesn’t match their own gender.
