Wally Needs Your Help
I am starting this GoFundMe campaign to help my sister Alexa and her partner Brandon, with the financial burden of having a sick family member and not knowing what’s wrong with him. All funds raised will go directly to Wally’s vet bills (vet information listed below).
This is their story:
Wally has been our best friend. He is sick and we need your help. Bills are skyrocketing and the vet doesn’t yet know what’s wrong with him. Anything you can do to help is much appreciated. The following is our story, thank you.
Wally was born August 5, 2020 and were so delighted to have him as a pandemic puppy in this stressful time. He is a happy Wheaton, poodle mix.
He loves playing fetch, running through the endowment lands, and making new doggy friends. He is very food and treat motivated. He has a lovely personality and has brought so much joy to our lives and those around us.
Starting on March 23rd Wally started to be progressively lethargic and had a lack of appetite. Two days in we took him to the vet where he was found to have a fever of unknown origin.
They ran more tests and found that his white cell count and neutrophils were extremely elevated. His Chest x Ray was normal. His Abdominal ultrasound showed a possible gastritis. Wally was kept overnight and given intravenous fluids.
Given other test results were pending, and because we don’t have insurance, our family discussed the overall picture with the vet, and given he was clinically doing a bit better, we decided to bring Wally home on broad spectrum antibiotics.
The next day Wally lay around all morning.
In the afternoon we went to my parents for an outside visit. He pulled on his leash for the first time in days and his tail was wagging with excitement. He ate food that day, with encouragement, and we thought things were getting better.
That evening I noticed something white in his stool. I took a photo and called the hospital and they asked me to bring the sample in to be tested. They provided some dewormer treatment for him.
The next day Wally was back to being tired and he started to limp on his right hind leg.
This continued for two days. We called the hospital but there would be no specialist over the weekend, so they provided some pain medication. We monitored him at home and towards the end of day two when he no longer was accepting chicken, we brought him back to the hospital.
He was admitted and given IV fluids. An x day of his R leg was taken which showed a small abnormality. He was seen the next morning by an internal medicine specialist. She unfortunately, also didn’t know what was wrong with Wally.
She ordered a CT scan of his abdomen and leg which revealed a couple of abnormalities.
She suggested we take a sample of cells from both sites and order urine and blood cultures.
He is currently on IV antibiotics and IV methadone for pain.
His fever is gone and his white cell count has come down a little, but is still extremely elevated.
They are worried about an osteomyelitis or a juvenile osteosarcoma but all of his symptoms do not align with one diagnosis. They are worried there are multiple problems going on.
It has been absolutely heart breaking and devastating to watch a member of our family be in so much pain. We continue to hope that the specialists will figure out why Wally is so sick so we can help him and bring him home to his family where he belongs.
As bills continue to grow, we appreciate any and all help you can share with us.
