Help Tamara and Eddie

Donation protected
A heartwrenching story of a mother who has never given up.   Please read this, they deserve our help!

On June 19, 2013 Tamara dropped Eddie off with his Dad despite a fear that she shouldn’t leave him. She didn’t feel right that day. Eddie fell into the pool while unsupervised (one family member thought another was watching him and vice versa). Paramedics said he didn’t have a pulse and were going to pronounce him dead but one paramedic thought he felt a pulse so he got Eddie into the ambulance and they went to Northridge Hospital ER. Tamara rushed to get there as soon as she received the call and while she was on her way to the hospital the doctors said there was no pulse. It was once Tamara came into the room that Eddie’s heart rate became detectable.
Over the next few days Doctors said Eddie would not live and if he did he would need a heart transplant and that his lungs and brain were badly damaged. He spent 29 days in the PICU at Northridge and was then transferred to a rehab facility where he now lives.

There is hope for Eddie.

What has happened since *is* progress yet Eddie still has not “woken up.”

He is able to breathe on his own for parts of the day and he has started making word sounds and looks at family members. Eddie has even turned his body toward a family member.

As you can imagine, Tamara is in desperate need of help - her life has changed since this happened to her baby: she cannot work and has medical bills that are insurmountable; she has crumbled and is working to keep herself afloat. Of course, she is devastated in every sense of the word.

This site has been developed not at Tamara’s request - she has only asked our profession for prayers and still wants them as frequently as possible.
We are two classmates who (like so many of you reading this) have only seen her and Eddie's life change via their Facebook posts but her agony is felt and it is chilling. And, her hope is felt and it is truly inspiring. Not only can we raise money for her, we can be a powerful force in Eddie's recovery via our collective thoughts and prayers.

SO! What can we do to help this wonderful person, mama, doctor and friend of ours????

We can all pitch in a little. If you can’t b/c you yourself have fallen on hard times then we send you all the best and ask you to send positive thoughts/prayers to Eddie and his family now. Your kind words can be sent to her via her Facebook page (below).

If you can send $5 minimum, even that would be helpful.
If you are able to send more, please do - that would be wonderful.

Let’s pull together for someone who is part of our community - our tribe.

Our goal is to raise more than $40,000 for Eddie’s care and for Tamara to be able to sustain herself financially for as long as possible.

Thank you and feel free to pass this along.

The family’s Facebook page is Pray For My Sweet Eddie and you can find updates there as well as a detailed timeline of events that have occurred in the last 16 months.

Here is some of the progress:
Eddie is now breathing and off life support 6 1/2 hours a day (starting at just 5 minutes a day in January) that when I read him books, and he's sitting on my lap, he doesn't just slouch against me, he is able to sit up and hold his head up on his own for a period of time, that he is responding to sounds better (but still has no startle reflex, is tracking his eyes better and follows me around the room, is using his voice more as communication (making sounds when I read to him out loud, responds timely when I ask him questions, his vocal tones carry emotion to them, and he can mimic syllables like "Mamma" and "Eddie", but with the trachea vent tube in his throat against his vocal cords, he cannot enunciate or fully talk), and with each new day there is progress no matter how little. He has never regressed.
