Hi everyone! My name is Gari François; I'm a rising junior at Wesleyan University, originally from New York City. Thank you so much for clicking on this link and taking the time out to read this and possibly help me out. I really appreciate it!

I've been drawing for about 4 years and sewing for about 2.

I started drawing when I was stuck in the middle of a deep depression. I really thought I was going to succumb to my illness when suddenly one summer, my aunt bought me a sketchpad, a Sharpie pen, and some colored pencils. She (and the rest of my family) had no idea that I was going through something so heavy, yet she unknowingly saved my life - I sincerely believe that drawing was integral to my healing. I genuinely don't know where I would be today if I had not started drawing. Here are some images of my art:

These were drawing in my little sketch book, with a plain Sharpie pen, and colored pencils. I hope to be able to graduate to paints and other mediums to experiment on different canvases. If you would like to see more, feel free to contact me!

As for sewing: I've never had any professional training; everything I know has been self-taught or learned from YouTube videos. I absolutely love sewing and making clothes. It is one of the most useful skills to have and it really makes me happy. Since learning how to sew, I've had the opportunity to single-handedly create and design a line in my school's fashion show. I created most of the pieces in the line and it was a very rewarding experience. Here are some photos from the show:

(I made the skirt)

(I made the shirt, drew the patch)

(I made the all pants and shirt)

(I made both outfits!)

Eventually, I want to learn how to apply my hand-drawn designs to clothing - to mix my two passions. Like in this incomplete drawing:

This summer, I want to delve deeper into the art/fashion and business worlds. I'm interning at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, so I'll begin to learn how to run a small business, which I may do when I graduate in 2 years, if not earlier. For now, I'm probably going to stick to sites like Etsy to sell my goods. I plan on investing in a sturdy and reliable sewing machine, many beautiful fabrics, cool embellishments, and even sewing lessons!

Before doing the fashion show, I wasn't really entirely sure what to do with my art/clothes-making ability. But with the encouragement of my loving friends and family, I now have the nerve to go forth and try to make my dreams come true! With your generosity, this dream could be a reality. I humbly ask for your support and donation to get this train rolling.

I so appreciate every single person that support me, now and in the future. I look forward for the many beautiful things that are to come and hope you do too! :)
